Gananda Bandits COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 impacted the 2019-2020 soccer season, and will continue to have impacts going into the 2020-2021 season. We have created this page to provide information about how our soccer club is adapting to COVID-19, and what to expect going into the new season.

The following waiver must be completed for each player before participating in Gananda Bandits Soccer Club activities:

Where can I find the latest COVID information for the Rochester District Youth Soccer League (RDYSL)?

Please refer to the RDYSL COVID Information web page.

What safety protocols and precautions is the club implementing in response to COVID-19?

The club is implementing safety measures in-line with NYS and local regulations, as well as US Youth Soccer recommendations, including but not limited to:

  1. All equipment will be sanitized prior to use (includes soccer balls, cones, flags, etc.)
  2. We are designing drills that minimize contact with other players
  3. Prior to and after practice no group chants, cheers, or handshakes.  After practice the coach can have a quick chat with players but everyone must be social distancing. Then everyone must leave the field -- you cannot stay behind and chat.  If players/parents/coaches choose to go to another part of the park then normal NY State guidelines apply.
  4. Parents must remain in their car if they choose to stay at practice.  If they leave the field area normal NY State guidelines apply.
  5. Players do not have to wear masks on field but must social distance and wear masks when social distancing is not possible.
  6. If your player is not comfortable with any particular drill they do not have to participate.  Have your player let their coach know if this is the case.
  7. We will comply with the current NYS group gathering restrictions at the time of any club event.
  8. The club will maintain attendance records for practices, scrimmages, and games to facilitate contact tracing in the event of a positive case.

Under what circumstances do I need to keep a player home from a soccer activity?

If your player has been exposed to someone with COVID do not send them to practice.
If your player has traveled to an area that as been deemed a non-travel state by NY State do not send them to practice.

Please use the following guidance from U.S. Youth Soccer to determine when a player or participant should be kept home based on medical symptoms:

1. The participant (including players, coaches, referees, volunteers and administrators) should conduct a daily temperature check for low grade fever (>100.4.) at home before training. If you have a fever, do not go to training. If thermometers are not available, conduct a daily health questionnaire online with the “Coronavirus Self-Checker,” made available by the CDC.

2. Do not participate in activities if you have any of the symptoms listed below.
  a. COVID-19 exposure in past 14 days
  b. Sore throat
  c. Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
  d. Fever >100.4 F
  e. Chills
  f. Headache
  g. Sinus congestion
  h. Cough persistent and/or productive
  i. Joint aches and soreness
  j. Vomiting or diarrhoea
  k. Rash

What safety measures is the club implementing for scrimmages and games?

  1. Teams and spectators must be on opposite sides of the field.
  2. Parents must social distance, and stay with their own family.  When social distancing is not possible, masks must be worn.
  3. No benches will be used.  Players must socal distance on the sideline.
  4. Any fall leagues or tournaments may have additional guidelines.
Will there be a refund if the 2020-2021 season is cancelled due to COVID-19?

The club refunded the unused portion of player registrations for the 2019-2020 season.

For the upcoming season, we have worked out an agreement with Lonestar Sport Recreation (Turin) that if we are not allowed to practice indoors on turf that any unused funds will be returned to the club, thus returning it to the parents.

What is the club doing to get back into soccer this fall?

Many teams are looking to run additional outdoor practices this fall where there are lower risks due to COVID-19.

Due to the uncertainty around High School athletics, there may be additional opportunities for teams to participate in fall leagues and tournaments (at additional cost).

Note that September 1st, 2020 is the beginning of the 2020-21 Bandits season. Players must be registered for the new season in order to participate in practices, leagues or tournaments after this date. This is required to ensure proper insurance coverage is in effect.
